What do your photos say about you?

What do your photos say about you? Are you a sports person? Are you a dancer? Do you live at 7º14’19.96” S, 177º08’54.68” E?

Now, how can a photo reveal the exact GPS coordinates of that selfie you took on your front porch yesterday?

The answer (seemingly the answer to everything these days) is metadata.

Metadata is literally data about data, as you've probably learned from the recent NSA scandal. So, for example, if you take a picture on your smartphone, which is connected to satellites and GPS, your location is embedded into the photo as well as information about the camera and the photo itself.

Scary, right?

On a quick Google search, I found multiple websites providing tools to extract metadata, and you can retrieve it using something as simple and accessible as Photoshop.

I’m learning more and more everyday about the technological capabilities of our fellow man and government.

Watch what you put online. Even if a photo seems safe and vague, there’s always more than meets the eye.

Bean’ safe.
